PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island public health officials say two state residents have been treated for confirmed or probable cases of vaping-related lung illness.
The state Department of Health announced Thursday that the cases are now included in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation into lung injury associated with e-cigarette use.
The department says both experienced symptom onset in early September and were hospitalized. Both were discharged within about a week.
One was in the 18- to 24-year-old age range and the other was in the 25- to 35-year-old age range. No names or hometowns were released.
The products they used are being tested.
The CDC said Thursday there have been 1,080 confirmed and probable cases of vaping-related lung illnesses reported nationwide, including 18 deaths.
