ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) - The son of a South Carolina county official has died in a fire at the family’s historic home.
Local news outlets report 29-year-old Tonie Jackson was found dead early Sunday morning.
He was the son of Dorchester County Councilwoman Harriet Holman. She was at home with her husband Herman, her son and another family member when the fire broke out.
Firefighters were called at 5:14 a.m., with county spokeswoman Tiffany Norton saying they found the home partially collapsed and engulfed in flames.
Holman was released from a hospital after treatment for minor injuries.
Dorchester County Fire Rescue, the State Law Enforcement Division, state fire marshal and county coroner are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday at Medical University Hospital.
The home, built in 1912 by a sawmill owner, was destroyed.
