RENO, Nev. (AP) - A jury has found a former captain in the Nevada Air National Guard guilty after he was charged with battery with a deadly weapon in a 2017 shooting.

KRNV-TV reported Wednesday that then-40-year-old James Upton of Reno was suspected of shooting a teen in the leg near Huffaker Park.

His trial began Monday.

Authorities say Reno police officers responded to a report of gunfire September 2017 and located both Upton and a juvenile victim suffering from two gunshot wounds to the leg.

Authorities say the then-16-year-old teen was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Reno police say Upton contacted a group of teens because of their suspicious behavior but fired three shots when one approached him.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 2020.
