Threat report prompts Ohio school district to cancel classes

JEFFERSON, Ohio (AP) - A shooting threat reported to a bus driver has prompted an Ohio school district to cancel classes.

Superintendent John Montanaro of the Jefferson Area Local School District says classes have been canceled Thursday throughout the district as a precaution and to give police time to investigate the threat.

Montanaro says the bus driver was told by a student that another student had threatened to shoot up the district’s junior high school on Thursday.

Jefferson is in Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO’-luh) County, about 57 miles (92 kilometers) northeast of Cleveland.

The district in northeastern Ohio has just over 1,700 students.
