PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Education says state Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green is staying put despite active recruitment by the state of New York.

An agency spokeswoman says Infante-Green plans to remain at the job, which she has held for less than six months.

The Boston Globe reports that New York education officials have been trying to convince Infante-Green to return to the state where she grew up and previously served as a deputy education commissioner.

New York’s interim Commissioner Beth Berlin announced last week she plans to step down next month.

New York Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa did not respond to the Globe’s requests for comment.
