PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Thousands of people, many decked out in pink, showed in Providence for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.
Organizers of the American Cancer Society event tell WPRI-TV about 15,000 people participated in Sunday’s event, and raised nearly $550,000 for cancer research.
Courtenay Needham, who helped organize the event, says the money raised goes to crucial programs for people throughout the state.
Many of those who walked are cancer survivors. Diane Fonseca says she celebrated 20 years of being cancer last June.
