ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The annual Citrus Parade in Florida has run out of juice.

Organizers said Wednesday that the Orlando Citrus Parade was ending its 39 year run.

The parade is usually timed right before a New Year’s Day college football bowl game in Orlando.

Florida Citrus Sports, which puts on the parade, said in a statement that the goal of the parade has always been to drive visitors and exposure to the area.

But the organization’s leaders have concluded the investment could no longer justify the return for the community.

Florida Citrus Sports says it’s looking now for other ways to invest those resources.

The parade is known for its floats made up or oranges and grapefruit, as well as appearances of characters from nearby Disney World and Universal Orlando.
