LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Police say a woman has died after being hit by a car in south Lincoln, which then fled the scene.

Lincoln police say 41-year-old Tina Mortensen was crossing 10th Street Friday night when she was hit by a northbound car that did not stop. Mortensen died at the scene.

Investigators say hours later just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a woman contacted police to say she had been the driver of the car. Police arrested a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of felony charges of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident and tampering with physical evidence. She also cited for misdemeanor charges of motor vehicle homicide and driving during suspension.

Investigators say the woman’s car had damage consistent with the fatal crash that killed Mortensen.
