Education board member charged with ID theft

WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) - A member of a Connecticut city’s education board is facing identity theft charges.

Waterford police on Friday charged New London Board of Education member Jason Catala with second-degree identity theft and illegal use of a credit card.

The 45-year-old Catala was freed on a promise to appear in court after pleading not guilty.

Catala’s attorney Daryl Finizio, tells The Day that neither he nor his client would comment on the case.

He did, however, say that the charges would have no bearing on Catala’s role on the New London Board of Education.

Catala is seeking his eighth term on the school board. He is a coach in the New Haven Public Schools district and previously served one term on the City Council.

His next court date is Nov. 12.
