DUMMERSTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont authorities have arrested a man accused of leaving the scene of an accident where a pedestrian was struck by a car.

Vermont state police say 53-year-old Jeffrey Dorsey, of Putney, was walking in the breakdown lane of Route 5 in Dummerston on Oct. 12 when he was hit.

Dorsey was thrown over the guardrail. He told police a white car stopped and a man got out. The driver reportedly told Dorsey he didn’t hit him and that he was going to return with help.

Police said 21-year-old Jakob Morrissey, of Philadelphia, a Landmark College student, was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer and a phone number couldn’t be found for him.
