KAYSVILLE, Utah (AP) - A bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is under arrest on suspicion of possessing child pornography.
Police say 61-year-old Timothy James Hallows of Kaysville is being held on suspicion of eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
He is being held without bail after police argued that his position as a bishop gives him “unfettered access to children.”
Jail documents say he acknowledged taking pictures of kids while on camping trips in that role, though the nature of those images wasn’t immediately clear.
Church spokesman Eric Hawkins tells KUTV Hallows was removed after leaders were informed of the allegations.
Police say he acknowledged having more than 100 images. Investigators are working to identify the children shown, and any other victims.
No attorney or working phone number was immediately available for Hallows.
