COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Five youths in the South Carolina National Guard’s cadet training program were injured in a three-way crash between their bus, a semitrailer and a logging truck.
The State newspaper reports the Youth ChalleNGe program participants and their driver suffered injuries not considered life threatening in the Monday crash in Columbia. City police say the vehicles crashed into each other that afternoon, closing the nearby roads for several hours.
Police say the semitrailer hauling paper was approaching a disabled vehicle that was on the side of the road when it crossed the center line to avoid it. They say the bus carrying the youths slowed to avoid the semitrailer and was rear-ended by the logging truck, causing it to flip and veer off-road. It’s unclear if any charges will be filed.
