FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - An elementary school student has died after being hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk outside a school in northeast Colorado.
The incident occurred about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday outside Lopez Elementary School in Fort Collins.
Police say a 23-year-old male driving a 2003 SUV had stopped at a four-way stop and then drove forward, striking the unidentified child in the crosswalk at the opposite side of the intersection.
The child, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where the child later died.
Officials say the child was a student at the elementary school.
No citations were immediately issued, but the incident remained under investigation.
