HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police have arrested an 18-year-old man they say opened fire on an unmarked Hartford police vehicle, narrowly missing an officer.

Lt. Paul Cicero said Wednesday that Alijay Wallen faces charges including criminal attempt of first-degree assault. He was held on $1 million bond.

Police say two officers performing a firearms investigation at about 6 p.m. Tuesday spotted a person of interest in the case. That person fired as many as nine shots at the unmarked car, shattering a window just inches from the head of one officer. The officers weren’t injured and didn’t return fire.

Wallen was apprehended in Manchester at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Cicero said police have no reason to believe that Wallen knew he was shooting at police officers.

It’s not clear if Wallen has an attorney.
