KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a boater who went missing near North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
Coast Guard Capt. Jeffrey Janszen told The Virginian-Pilot on Monday that the decision to suspend a search is not something the Coast Guard takes lightly. He also offered sympathies to the boater’s family.
The man who is missing is 50-year-old Michael Bye. He was reported missing on Thursday. He was scheduled to meet a friend in Belhaven, North Carolina, but did not arrive.
His last known position was near Kill Devil Hills. Bye was sailing aboard a 35-foot recreational vessel called “H.M.S. Me II.” He was traveling alone from New York to Florida.
