PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say the man who exchanged gunfire with police as he was getting off a bus in Philadelphia has been charged with attempted murder.
Police said Friday that 54-year-old Walter Farrell shot at police as he exited a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority bus Thursday morning after police stopped the bus.
Officers had responded to a call of a person with a gun and identified Farrell as the suspect when they saw him entering the bus.
When Farrell exited, police say he shot at them, striking Officer Donald Revill in the arm. Police had returned fire, wounding Farrell.
Revill has been treated and released.
Farrell is charged with attempted murder, assault and more. No attorney information is available for him.
He remains hospitalized in critical condition with several gunshot wounds.
