MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Dozens of schools are closed or are opening late in Vermont as freezing rain is making roads slick.

A winter weather was issued across the state Tuesday, ending at 10 a.m. in southern Vermont and 1 p.m. Tuesday in central and northern parts of the state.

The forecast calls for mixed precipitation with 1 to 3 inches (2.4 to 7.6 centimeters) of snow and a layer of ice in central and northern Vermont.

Freezing rain was expected to turn to snow later Tuesday.
