Two Arkansas chemistry professors were placed under arrest Friday for allegedly using a university laboratory to make meth.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release an investigation led to the arrests of Dr. Terry Bateman and Dr. Bradley Rowland, who could face charges of methamphetamine manufacturing and drug paraphernalia for allegedly using Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to create meth.
“Bateman and Rowland were the subject of an investigation originating with Henderson State University Chief of Police, Johnny Campbell” before moving to the Arkadelphia police, the sheriff’s office said, according to KARK.
It is unknown whether Mr. Bateman and Mr. Rowland are still in custody and KARK reports a court date has yet to be scheduled.
The two professors were placed on administrative leave Oct. 11th after the Reynolds Science Center was closed due to an “undetermined chemical odor,” a Henderson State University official said.
KARK reported Mr. Rowland told a student reporter in 2014 that the show Breaking Bad, about a high school chemistry teacher who uses his expertise to make meth, was good for getting young people “interested in chemistry” and called it a “wonderful recruiting tool.”
