MESA, Ariz. (AP) - The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says a man who refused to put down a gun during an encounter in the Mesa area has died after being shot by at least one deputy.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said the incident occurred Monday near Crimson Road and Main Street when deputies responded to a complaint about a man making threats.

No deputies were injured.



The man’s identity was not released immediately and Enriquez did not provide additional information about circumstances of the shooting and events leading up to it.
