NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a driver is in custody after his vehicle slammed into a two-story Brooklyn building, causing it to partially collapse.
Security video shows a streak of light as the car barreled through an intersection and into the building at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Rubble rained and dust billowed as the front section of the building came down.
The Fire Department says the building had a vacant store on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor. Nobody was inside.
A neighborhood resident, 15-year-old Dina Ramirez, tells the Daily News that “it sounded like a bomb went off.”
The driver fled but police found him several blocks away. Police said it appeared he had been drinking. He was taken to a hospital for tests and observation.
