LISBON, Maine (AP) - Police say three family members who were attacked by an animal on a walking path in Lisbon are getting rabies treatments as a precaution.

Lisbon Police Chief Marc Hagan said Sunday that either a coyote or a dog attacked an 11-year-old girl who suffered bite wounds to her leg. He said the mother and father suffered hand and finger injuries. The family dog was not bitten.

The episode unfolded Saturday evening.

The parents fended off the animal, described as about 80 pounds, and then went to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries as well as a rabies vaccine.
