NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware police say they’ve arrested a suspect who offered a woman a ride and then raped her at knife-point.
Newark Police said Sunday 41-year-old Roberto Rodriguez was arrested leaving a residence after officers tracked down the silver GMC pickup truck captured in surveillance footage. Police say he was charged with first-degree rape, possessing a deadly weapon during a felony and stealing the victim’s cell phone to prevent her from calling authorities.
Police said Rodriguez posed as a driver for a rideshare company to lure into his truck a 21-year-old woman who had been walking near the University of Delaware campus. The motorist drove off but later stopped, showed a knife and ordered the woman to perform a sexual act with him.
Rodriguez was ordered held on $63,000 cash bail.
