DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A former state lawmaker who spent three years in prison for convictions including election falsification has pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges related to contracts with an Ohio city.
Court records show former Democratic State Rep. Clayton Luckie was charged in a recently unsealed indictment with mail fraud and wire fraud and pleaded not guilty. Luckie’s attorney declined to comment.
Luckie is among four people indicted in a federal probe of alleged corruption in Dayton.
The indictment against the Dayton man alleges he devised a fraudulent scheme to take advantage of programs offered to help disadvantaged businesses. Authorities say he offered his firm as a front for another company to win work intended for disadvantaged businesses and submitted false invoices for thousands of dollars to the city of Dayton.
