DETROIT (AP) - The world premiere of a piece for 16 strings will be featured in the Chamber Music Society of Detroit ’s 75th anniversary season finale.

“Trading Fours” will be performed next Sunday at Orchestra Hall during a concert featuring four American string quartets playing individually and collectively. The composer is Jessie Montgomery, who also will be performing as part of the Catalyst Quartet .

The piece was commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Detroit through contributions from about 120 donors and ticket buyers. The organization similarly commissioned Samuel Barber to compose a work 65 years ago for its 10th anniversary.

The Catalyst and the other quartets - Attacca, Dover, and Harlem - will be joined on the program by pianist Leon Fleisher. The concert also features pieces by Mendelssohn, Bach and Mozart.
