ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Fishing season is opening in New York for several cool water species.

The season opens Saturday for fish including walleye, northern pike, pickerel and tiger muskellunge.

Walleye can be found in every major watershed and more than 140 bodies of water throughout the state. Three of the top walleye fisheries are Lake Erie, Oneida Lake, and Chautauqua Lake.

Anglers 16 years of age or older need a state fishing license. The license is good for one year.

A list of fishing hot spot recommendations can be found on the State Department of Environmental Conservation website.
