LINCOLN PARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a helicopter pilot and a student he was training escaped injury when the aircraft crashed at a northern New Jersey airport.
The pair were doing a “practice hover” about 20 feet off the ground at 4:20 p.m. when the Robinson R22 helicopter’s tail rotor hit the ground around 4:20 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Park Airport.
The impact caused the helicopter to crash and roll over onto its side on a grassy area of the airport.
The names of the pilot and the student were not disclosed. Authorities say they were not hurt in the crash, and one one on the ground was injured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
