DOVER, Del. (AP) - A trial is set to begin for a former custodian charged with murder in the shooting of a man outside a Delaware elementary school.

Jury selection was set to begin Tuesday in the trial of 54-year-old Rodney West.

West is charged with killing 39-year-old Derrick Combs in August 2018 on the property of Towne Point Elementary School in Dover.

Police said no students were at the school at the time of the shooting.

West was later arrested by U.S. marshals in Montgomery County, Maryland and extradited to Delaware.

Officials have said the shooting involved a domestic dispute.

West’s attorney has said the shooting was self-defense.
