WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Police say a 48-year-old woman is in critical condition after a wrong-way crash on a highway on-ramp.

Warwick police say the woman was driving south at about 10:45 a.m. Monday when her vehicle struck the curb, traveled across the sidewalk, struck a sign and a utility pole and then continued over the grass median and onto the Route 37 on-ramp going in the wrong direction.

The vehicle collided with another SUV that was entering the ramp.

The driver was found unresponsive and taken to Kent County Hospital in critical condition. The operator of the other SUV was not injured.

Police think she may have had some sort of medical emergency. No names were released.
