BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - Maine’s oldest college is keeping with tradition of looking inward for a commencement speaker instead of enlisting a high-profile luminary.

Graduating seniors Julia O’Rourke and Anu Asaolu were tapped for the honor Saturday at Bowdoin College.

Past student speakers have included poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Arctic explorer Robert E. Peary, and biologist and researcher Alfred Kinsey. Other notable alumni include writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, President Franklin Pierce and Civil War hero and Maine Gov. Joshua Chamberlain.

Degrees were awarded to 472 graduates from 45 states; the District of Columbia; Puerto Rico; and 19 countries and territories.
