TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A man found guilty of shooting and killing a woman east of Tacoma has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

KOMO-TV reports Joshua Ellis was given the maximum sentence available Thursday in the murder of 25-year-old Wendi Traynor.

On Nov. 10, 2017, Traynor’s family found her dead in her Milton apartment. Police said her body had been there a week.

Prosecutors say Traynor had been in a troubled relationship with Ellis.

Prosecutors say they moved to Kentucky together but Traynor tried to leave several times before moving back to Washington.

Prosecutors said Ellis eventually followed and that on Nov. 3 Traynor texted a friend that she was meeting with her “ex” to discuss the relationship. Investigators believe she was killed that day.

Ellis broke down in court saying he lives the tragic event every day.
