BUCKLAND, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts high school has decided to keep calling its sports teams the Warriors, but will eliminate all remaining Native American imagery.

The Mohawk Trail Regional District School Committee voted on the matter Thursday.

The school serves students from the towns of Ashfield, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Rowe and Shelburne.

The Recorder reports that the committee also voted to affirm the school name, Mohawk Trail, and voted to urge administrators to review curricula to include more information on indigenous issues.

The process of removing the imagery has been going on for several years, but the major image remaining is a massive mural in the school gym of a Native American in a feathered headdress.

Colrain committee representative Kate Barrows said the mural violates the school’s anti-discrimination policy.
