PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s attorney general is warning people against purchasing tickets online that aren’t officially on sale.

State Attorney General Peter Neronha said Wednesday “speculative tickets” are becoming increasingly common, and he believes the practice is “inherently deceptive.”

He says he may take legal action against sellers under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The president and CEO of the Providence Performing Arts Center, Lynn Singleton, says tickets for “Hamilton” aren’t on sale yet, but some websites are already listing tickets for $1,900 to $2,900.

Singleton tells WPRI-TV it’s an issue they are dealing with constantly.

Neronha says buyers should make sure tickets are officially on sale, and they should check with venues to make sure the seats listed exist.
