BOSTON (AP) - State officials say Massachusetts employers added an estimated 11,400 jobs in January while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.1 percent.
The office of Labor and Workforce Development said Friday the jobless rate has been unchanged for the past four months. Massachusetts has gained more than 27,000 jobs since January 2018.
State labor secretary Rosalin Acosta said the state has maintained low unemployment despite significantly boosting its labor force. She cited a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showing the 2018 increase in Massachusetts’ employment to population ratio was the highest among all states.
The U.S. Labor Department reported Friday that the February national unemployment rate stood at 3.8 percent, down from 4 percent in January. Massachusetts will release its February jobs report later this month.
