GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - This year’s harsh winter is leaving the central Nebraska city of Grand Island low on salt to keep roads clear.

Station KSNB reports that the city’s road salt supply in nearly depleted.

Because of that, says city street supervisor Shannon Callahan, residents in the city might notice that some side streets are going without. Callahan says the city needs to save every bit it can for the main roads.

She says the city has enough salt to get through another three or four storms before new supplies come in.

The National Weather Service says Grand Island has seen more than 31 inches of snowfall this season.
