MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Prosecutors say a Tennessee man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of a police officer.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 34-year-old Christopher Roby is being held at the Shelby County jail after an indictment.

In January 2018, Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings said officers were called to a home by someone who said her son had a weapon and was speaking erratically. Rallings said a man fled into the house when officers arrived, and he threw what resembled fireworks at officers.

Officers used a stun-gun on the man. Rallings said the man stabbed a 39-year-old officer in the upper torso as he was being arrested.

The officer survived.

Online records didn’t show whether Roby had a lawyer to defend him on the new indictment Wednesday.
