OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The Washington Senate has passed a bill to create a pilot program at four colleges to provide assistance to homeless college students and students who had previously been in foster care.
The measure passed the chamber on a 30-18 vote and it now heads to the House for consideration.
Under the measure, two colleges from each side of the state will be selected for the program. The services to be provided under the program will include access to: laundry facilities; locker room and shower facilities; and short-term housing or housing assistance.
The pilot program would end July 1, 2023, and participating colleges will issue a report by Dec. 1, 2023.
