AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Conservation and outdoor recreation groups are pushing Maine lawmakers to support a $95 million bond proposal for land protection and the state parks system.

The bond proposal announced Tuesday would earmark $75 million to the Land for Maine’s Future program and $20 million for state parks.

The Land for Maine’s Future program helps protect public access to recreational land and preserves farmlands and working waterfronts.

State Sen. Cathy Breen says 104 out of the Legislature’s 186 members have signed on as co-sponsors of her bill proposing the bond.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills expressed her support for funding the Land for Maine’s Future program Tuesday.

She says Maine’s public lands are an “untold gem.”

Lawmakers will consider more than $1 billion in bond proposals this session.
