SUNDERLAND, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the man found dead near a popular hiking area in western Massachusetts last weekend, but the death remains under investigation.

The Northwestern district attorney on Tuesday said the man found by hikers on Mount Toby in Sunderland on Sunday was 63-year-old Mark Klempner, of Greenfield.

No additional information was released.

The discovery led to a lengthy and complicated recovery effort because of the body’s remote location.

First responders had to use ATVs, snowmobiles and utility vehicles to get them and their equipment to the site. The recovery was complicated by rough terrain and snow-covered trails.
