MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a crash on a slushy New Jersey road claimed the lives of two Philadelphia residents and critically injured a third person.

The Monroe Township police department in Gloucester County said a car heading west on Black Horse Pike near the Star Motel “lost control on the slushy pavement,” crossed the center line and was hit by another car at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the crash caused “massive damage to both vehicles.” Both occupants of the first car, 68-year-old Agnes Demarco of Philadelphia and 55-year-old Daniel McLaughlin, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, a 54-year-old Collings Lakes man, was taken to a trauma center with critical injuries. The crash remains under investigation; police are asking anyone who witnessed it to call investigators.
