DECATUR, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Tennessee say a former officer has been indicted on charges he kept a firearm that was seized during a traffic accident.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says in a news release the Meigs County grand jury indicted 28-year-old Eobard Thawne on one count each of official misconduct and theft.

The statement says Thawne was a Decatur police officer who investigated a December traffic accident. According to the indictment, Thawne seized a firearm from a driver that he kept at his home instead of processing it. Thawne resigned in January and was arrested Saturday.

Thawne is being held Sunday in the McMinn County Jail. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
