PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo’s administration is pushing back against concerns of state lawmakers about state spending.
The response comes due a highly critical letter the administration received a month ago from House Finance Chairman Marvin Abney and his Senate counterpart, William Conley.
The Providence Journal reports Administration Director Michael DiBiase responded by saying Raimondo, a Democrat, understands concerns raised about revenue shortfalls. But he said lawmakers should move to approve their own budgetary revision measures if those concerns are continuing.
DiBiase says Raimondo’s 2019 budget revisions, submitted separately from the proposed fiscal year 2020 budget, contain legislative changes to achieve increased revenue.
There has been no response yet from the chairs of the two legislative committees.
