NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey legal group is partnering with the Essex County prosecutor’s office to hold a gun buyback event this weekend.

The Essex County Bar Association is providing funding for the event Saturday at Newark’s Bethany Baptist Church from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Anyone can turn in up to three guns anonymously and receive up to $250 per weapon.

The last large-scale gun buyback occurred two years ago in Newark, Trenton and Camden. The state attorney general’s office said nearly 5,000 weapons were received over a two-day period, including more than 100 assault rifles.
