OPINION:
Special counsel Robert Mueller has just concluded his report after about two years and the spending of a reported $20 million (“Mueller finds no Russia collusion,” Page I, March 25). In the process, he accomplished the grand total of incriminating three people for basically lying, two to him and one to the IRS. And he created a black comedy with a middle-of-the-night arrest of a dirty trickster.
The report proves only that President Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, is a liar. He lied before Congress and the prosecutors claimed he lied during the Russia probe. Cohen appeared before Congress more than once, so which times was he lying? And how can he ever be believed again, except by those who have an ulterior motive?
Paul Manafort could not have become so rich without committing some sort of crime — or at least, that’s what the Mueller gang wants the American public to believe. Yet the tribunal could not find evidence that he committed any crimes of Russian collusion with regard to Trump’s election. It yielded evidence of under- or unpaid taxes and improprieties with banks, for which Manafort was indicted and found guilty. Perhaps the fines he must pay will be enough to cover some of the unbelievable cost of the Mueller probe.
Next is Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to felony lying to investigators in the Mueller probe. His lie is worth researching, for when he disclosed what his conversation was, it was with a Russian diplomat about the Russian’s position on an issue with our ally, Israel. The conversation in Flynn’s guilty admission points out that it was during the transition period from President Obama to President Trump and the inquiry was about a U.N. resolution. His lie? Denying having had such a conversation. Again, nothing to do with the 2016 election.
Finally there was Roger Stone Jr. Now here is a real bad guy, worthy of 29 FBI SWAT-team guys at 4 a.m. with automatic weapons, armored cars and helicopters to drag him onto his front lawn to arrest him. Good theater, perhaps, but alas, no case.
How is it that all these alleged dirty tricks pulled by Republicans are being investigated, but none of the Democrats’ tricks, such as the phone taps at Trump Towers and more, do not get investigated? Is the FBI that biased? And is Mr. Mueller that blind?
