DOVER, Del. (AP) - A judge has ruled in favor of a Delaware school district in a lawsuit filed after a fourth-grader had the tip of his pinkie finger severed by a classroom door.

The judge ruled last week that there was no evidence that the door at Rehoboth Beach Elementary School was faulty. He also said math teacher Bridgette Perotta was immune from liability because she was acting within her discretion at the time and was not grossly negligent.

As part of a math lesson in 2016, Perotta’s students were measuring a flag that hung near the door when one student left to use the bathroom. When the student returned, the door accidentally closed on the finger of another student who was bracing himself on the doorframe for stability while measuring the flag.
