ARCOLA, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi Delta town is celebrating the reopening of its post office after a fire last April.

The Delta Democrat-Times reports the Arcola post office, in southern Washington County, reopened earlier this month.

The building was damaged in a fire that also destroyed a nightclub and convenience store in the town with a population of 360.

Town residents were served by a mobile post office while the building was being repaired, but Mayor Cora Burnside says that was inconvenient. The mobile post office had no individual boxes, meaning all residents had to get their mail handed to them by a postal employee. Burnside says she’s also pleased because the U.S. Postal Service didn’t close the office.

The office is now open from 8 a.m. to noon on weekdays.
