ADDISON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say it appears that a drug-impaired motorist nodded off before fatal head-on collision in the town of Addison, Vermont.
Troopers say a vehicle operated by 28-year-old Ian Labounty, of Crown Point, New York, crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming car Friday morning. The crashed claimed the life of 57-year-old Cecile Druzba, of South Burlington, Vermont.
Troopers say an initial investigation suggests Labounty fell asleep and that drugs were a contributing factor. Troopers say drug recognition experts concluded Labounty was impaired at the time; a blood toxicology report is pending.
It’s unclear if Labounty has a lawyer. He’s charged with driving under the influence and gross negligent operation resulting in death.
