MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist struck and injured a Miami Beach police officer.
The Miami Herald reports that the crash occurred Friday evening on a busy stretch of Collins Avenue. Police have increased patrols in South Beach to deal with the large number of spring breakers.
Police say the officer was on foot when he attempted to stop motorcyclist, who was taken into custody after running into the officer.
Police didn’t immediately identify the officer or motorcyclist. The officer was taken to a Miami hospital. His condition wasn’t known.
Miami Beach officials held an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss safety concerns about the annual spring break festivities. Police announced that a squad of about 25 officers wearing protective gear would patrol the beach throughout the day.
