FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Investigators say the 2018 death of an Arkansas jail inmate found unresponsive in his cell has been ruled an accidental drug overdose.
Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue on Friday said no charges would be filed at this time in the death of 33-year-old Adrian Goodwin of Fort Smith.
Goodwin in 2013 was convicted of violent and drug-related felonies. He was arrested July 12 on warrants for failure to appear and parole violations.
Goodwin on July 24 was found unresponsive in the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Shue said health care professionals found a bag of white powdery substance on Goodwin, prompting an investigation.
An autopsy determined cause of death was accidental combined drug toxicity. Toxicology results showed methamphetamine, amphetamine and fentanyl.
