CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Police in West Virginia have arrested a man on charges that he stole more than $60,000 from a nonprofit group where he worked.
News outlets report 38-year-old Christopher Kimes of Charleston was arraigned Monday on an embezzlement charge in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Kimes worked for the West Virginia Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, where he was director of political affairs and interim director.
According to a criminal complaint, Kimes made 83 personal transactions linked to the group’s credit card.
Executive director Jennifer Wells says the group is “undeterred” by the theft.
It wasn’t immediately known whether Kimes has an attorney.
