WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A former Massachusetts police officer convicted of raping a woman on duty has filed a second request for a new trial.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that Rajat Sharda says in the motion that his trial attorney had a conflict of interest.
Sharda says an associate of the attorney’s law firm represented the boyfriend of the woman in a different case.
Sharda was sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison after his conviction on rape and other charges.
Prosecutors say the former Worcester officer was on duty in 2013 when he assaulted the woman after finding her and her boyfriend engaged in a sexual encounter in a vehicle in a parking lot.
A judge denied Sharda’s previous request for a new trial in 2017.
